What is a Group Training Company?
A group training company is a business that employs apprentices, and then places them with one or more host trainers to undertake their apprenticeship. If I attend RTO/TAFE one day a week, will I then be paid for four days only? No! You will be paid for attending RTO/TAFE provided you present your attendance card signed by your RTO/TAFE teacher to your host employer immediately after having attended RTO/TAFE.
What should I do if I am not happy in the company where I have been placed for my training?
Your first line of action would be to discuss the situation with the workshop manager or, if this is not possible due to breakdown in communications, contact your Field Officer.
How long is a standard apprenticeship?
An Apprenticeship period is becoming more flexible generally taking up to four years. It is possible with high performance at TAFE and success in the workplace to gain an early completion.
Do I have to go to TAFE or any other REGISTERED TRAINING ORGANISATION (RTO)?
Yes! Depending on the training you undertake, you will have to attend either day or block training week during your apprenticeship.
Do I have to buy tools straight away?
Under a Federal Government initiative, most apprenticeship trades will receive an $800 tool voucher after the completion of the probationary period. It is advisable to only purchase initial tools until this time, however, if you choose to do so, that is entirely up to you.
